How do you know if your ministry is being truly effective? How do you know if you are actually accomplishing what you set out to do - create a place where children are able to genuinely learn how to know God, walk with Him, and a place where they really want to spend their time?
The best way is to check and see how many children are part of your ministry who do not have to be part of it. Church kids are there because their parents made the decision they will be there. These children may enjoy what they do in your ministry and may be able to share how and what they are learning, but if the children who do not "have" to be there are continuing to show up, then you probably have an effective ministry.
But, if the children who do not "have" to be there are not coming back, then you probably have a problem. Who are these children? Check with the grandparents who bring their grandchildren to church. These children are likely at church IF they want to be there. If these children are not returning, then you likely need to reevaluate what you are doing AND you need to reach out to these children to let them know they are missed and you would love to see them return.
Checking with these children is a very simple, and honest way to evaluate what you are doing in your ministry. If you have not done this yet, make plans to do so this week - and get ready. You may find you need to make changes.
