Who Benefits & What Does This Mean?

Which of the families in your ministry will benefit from having grandparents who are engaged, equipped, and encouraged to focus on being intentional in the way they pass on a heritage of confident faith? While the answer may seem obvious, this is a serious question with a serious answer, because the truth is each and every family in your ministry will benefit from this, including . . . 

• Families where the parents are focused and engaged in passing on a heritage of confident faith. If the parents serve in ministry full-time or are committed volunteers, this family will still benefit from grandparents who are equally as focused and engaged in passing on a heritage of confident faith.
• Families where the parents go to church, but may not be focused or engaged in passing on a heritage of confident faith.
• Families where the parents rarely go to church and are not passing on a heritage of confident faith.
• Families where the parents are not believers.

While you may think the last two groups of families are the ones who need the grandparents to focus and be intentional about passing on a heritage of confident faith the most, the truth is each and every family in your ministry benefits greatly from having grandparents who are serious about passing on a heritage of confident faith.

So, if all families benefit from having grandparents who are engaged, equipped, and encouraged to focus on being intentional about passing on a heritage of confident faith to their grandchildren, why wouldn't we be equally as focused about engaging, equipping, and encouraging the grandparents in our churches, so they understand their responsibility and joy in doing exactly this?

I understand there are lots of things going on in a church and a Children's Ministry which may leave it feeling like, "adding one more straw to the camel's back" to add anything more; but this matters. It is important. It may require you to take a serious and honest look at what you are doing; where you are putting your time, money, and volunteers and you may need to cut things which take your time and resources, but which do not really engage children, families, and grandparents. Things which do not help children understand God's Word is for them and they can love, know, and follow God.

If we know and can agree all families in your ministry benefit from having grandparents who are engaged, equipped, and encouraged to pass on a heritage of confident faith; why wouldn't we make this a core part of our ministry?
